The Governing Body’s role in the school is, essentially, a strategic one. In consultation with the Headteacher, the Governors:
· Set aims and objectives for the school
· Approve policies and targets which are expected to achieve these aims and objectives
· Monitor and evaluate the progress of the school
· Act as ‘critical friends’ of the school, offering both support and constructive challenge to the Headteacher and staff.
The Headteacher is responsible for the internal organisation, management and control of the school and is a member of the Governing Body.
The Governing Body normally consists of:
· Headteacher
· Seven Parent Governors
· Four Governors appointed by the Local Authority
· Five Community Governors, local residents appointed by Governing Body
· Two elected Teacher Governors
· One elected Support Staff Governor
